After doing a long try, i got success to load Ubuntu 12.04 with Windows 8(dual boot) in my Lenovo ideapad y500. But now window is not working, I simply use legacy mode with UEFI first boot. and whenever i try to install nvidia drivers for linux system, it shows "grub rescue" so i reboot it with live ubuntu 12.04 usb and use this link for boot loader repair

i did it many times with many different ways but still stuck. I did try with linux mint also but with the same problem. Right now i m using ubuntu 12.04 without drivers and windows 8 is not opening.

I am not sure if it boot loader problem or graphics problem. I have seen posts on ubuntu forum related to this but no-one work for me. Please help if someone short out this problem.

It looks like your problem is that Ubuntu is installed in legacy mode and Windows 8 in UEFI mode. Try switching to UEFI mode from your BIOS and see if Windows 8 works. –  Dillmo Jun 29 '13 at 12:54

If you dual boot both Windows and Ubuntu need to be installed the same way. If switching to UEFI mode fixes windows you will need to either remove Ubuntu in legacy mode then reinstall in UEFI or remove Windows in UEFI then re-install in legacy. Either will work. –  Warren Hill Jun 29 '13 at 13:05
