Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have found (and attempted) many recipes (all shockingly different) for getting the Network Manager indicator to show at the top of the screen, but they have all failed. More precisely, all these recipes sooner or later reach a step that is not possible in my system (e.g. a file the recipe says to edit is not present in my installation).

I'm at a loss to explain why so many different recipes turn out to be inapplicable to my situation. Maybe the reason is that I'm using Gnome Classic No Effects as my window manager. Hence this question:

Does anyone know what I'd need to do to get a Network Manager indicator to show under Gnome Classic No Effects?
