This question already has an answer here:
I've acquired an old laptop (Acer TravelMate 4050 with an Italian keyboard) that boots up with the following options:
Ubuntu, with Linux 3.0.0-12-generic
Ubuntu, with Linux 3.0.0-12-generic (recovery mode)
Memory test (memtest86+)
Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200)
I can go into grub> command mode by typing 'c', whereas if I choose the first option above, the screen just goes blank with a flashing cursor. If I choose the second option (recovery mode), I get the message: "fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed". My question is:
Can I find out which operating system is installed, and the files stored on my computer?
