I have tried kwin --replace and startx, the former claims a fatal error the latter tries to initiate but fails after an error. I reinstalled kubuntu-desktop to no avail. My issue is similar to this but I'm using a home build PC.

Specifications: Intel Pentium dual core 1 GB RAM Unbranded SVGA monitor
