Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Yesterday I partitioned my hard drive and installed Ubuntu 12.04.2 on the smaller partition (my primary OS is still Windows 8).

However, as soon as I got things set-up my screen resolution still didn't match my monitor. The only options in the settings were 1024x768 and 800x600, but my monitor is 1400x900. So, after Googling around a bit, I found a solution that worked for me: http://www.garrypassarella.co.uk/2011/04/23/add-undetected-resolutions-in-ubuntu/

Everything was working fine after that, but the next time I tried booting into Ubuntu I got this error message displayed from my monitor:

Out of Range H. Frequency: 74KHz V. Frequency: 60Hz

I've Googled around and some people have been having this issue as well but none of the solutions seemed to make sense to me. I've tried booting into recovery mode but I don't really know what any of the options in there do so I haven't touched much.
