So, I originally dual-booted Windows 8 Pro with Ubuntu 13.04 on a Dell Vostro 3560 machine with 1 TB HDD + 32 GB SSD, Intel i7-3630Q 2.2GHz CPU and 8 GB RAM. Today, I removed Windows 8 by means of first doing
sudo -E -r dmraid /dev/sda sudo -E -r dmraid /dev/sdb
to remove the fake RAID setup used by Windows. Then, I partitioned the 32 GB SSD such that
- 3.2 GB (10%) is reserved as free space, never to be partitioned
- 3 GB is used as SWAP
- The remaining space is where Ubuntu lies, except the /home folder, which is located on the 1 TB drive so that the SSD does not encounter an unreasonable number of writes.
The problem is, I install software by means of
sudo apt-get install <some package>
and then I analysed disks, and clicked the "Show in User Interface" option (for both disks). Once the machine is rebooted, it becomes unbootable. If anyone has a solution, I would be greatly interested to know. Thank you in advance.
