I've a HP Pavilion g6 2320tx laptop with pre installed Windows 8. Somehow managed to install Ubuntu 13.04.

In windows 8, I get a battery time 5 hrs max after complete charging but in ubuntu max time is only 2 hrs.

I installed 'powertop' and it shows power consumption about 26 W.
Then I installed TLP, used the command

sudo tlp start

and found that the power consumption is about 22.5 W. But battery life is still the same.
And do I have to use this command everytime I power on my laptop?

In a post in this site something about changing 'governor' is mentioned. Is that mandatory? Also I didn't change default frequency as mentioned. Am I to do all these?

Please help me out!

In windows the proprietary drivers are made to get maximum power savings. But as ubuntu uses open source drivers power savings might not be maximum. So you will observe less power savings. –  M.Tarun Jun 23 '13 at 11:50

Well i am living in very hot country, so i use powersave on ac/bat thats make laptop cool, Powersave make laptop to run on lowest frequency & i have i7 so thats doesn't effect of any app....depending on your situation you can change accordingly.... 22.5 W battery usage is too high ..i have 8 to 9 W battery usage ...check your power usage ... please update sudo tlp-stat –  Qasim Jun 23 '13 at 11:57

What graphics card(s) are in your machine? Please provide the output of lspci -nnk | grep -iEA3 "(vga|graphics)" in your question. –  gertvdijk Jun 23 '13 at 12:14

Most possibly you are having two GPU (I am not sure, follow @gertvdijk's comment for that). Anyway you need to install graphics driver. According to spec in internet it is an AMD GPU. So follow this What is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers (fglrx)? Again first determine whether this is a hybrid graphics card setup –  Web-E Jun 23 '13 at 12:32

So this is a hybrid graphics notebook. Have a look at How do I get AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics drivers to work? You should notice a large drop in power consumption. Also consider an easy alternative: turning the AMD discrete card off in your system BIOS, only leaving the Intel graphics. It's a lot better supported in terms of power management! –  gertvdijk Jun 23 '13 at 16:22
