I'm setting up a new system with a 120GB SSD and a 2TB HDD.
I've started by installing Windows 8: I created a 75GB partition on the SSD for Windows and installed it.
On the HDD, I created an NTFS partition that took all the place.
I then created a bootable USB and started installing Ubuntu 13.04.
When the setup asked me where to install I chose "Something else" and went to the partitioning screen.
I chose the free space from
sda1 (SSD) and created a new partition as "Primary", "ext4", with mount point "/" and 22000 MB in size. With the rest of the space I created another identical partition, differing from the first one only on the mount point, which in this case was "/home".
After that I double clicked the NTFS from
sdb1 and created a new 16000MB partition to be used as swap area.
Then I chose "Install now".
Now the setup has been running for almost 45 min and it didn't stop yet. I have an Intel Core i7-4770K, which is a really good CPU. Should the setup take so much time?
