I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 or 12.04 on my DELL E4310 Notebook it is currently running windows 8 and I want to dual boot but the Ubuntu won't install :(

I have prepared the USB correctly and it runs at start up then gets stuck when Ubuntu is loading for the first time.

Can anyone please help me? :(

Did W8 come preinstalled? Did you MD5sum the iso? At what exact point does it "get stuck"? Are you trying to install the 64 bit versions? Did you read about UEFI installations? – ubfan1 Jun 20 '13 at 20:00

Best option for you, use Wubi

Unless it a UEFI machine, in which case, avoid wubi. – ubfan1 Jun 20 '13 at 20:02

I tried this method too but now Windows 8 got corrupted.. I want to format the drive windows drive using the Ubuntu Live CD but I am getting error unmounting that drive.. Can you please help? – MIke dA MetallheAd Jun 21 '13 at 6:03
You want to reformat the entire drive and start over from scratch or attempt to recover Windows? – seanthewebber Jun 21 '13 at 6:18
all preinstalled Windows8 are UEFI, and Wubi is incompatible with UEFI, so Wubi does NOT work for machines with preinstalled Windows8. – LovinBuntu Jun 21 '13 at 18:30
