Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

We are using a login script to refresh a profile from a saved state every time a user logs in. When they log out our script calls for gnome-session-quit --no-prompt and brings them back to the login screen.

Our startup script has them set to auto login but it's not working after a logout. Only on power ups or rebooting. So we decided to try to get our logout script to restart lightdm but nothing after gnome-session-quit runs.

Is there a way to either get lightdm restarted after logout or another way to have the user get auto logged in every time regardless of power up, reboot or logout?

Sounds a little silly but we have a project that requires a "clean slate login" every session.
