I have an Acer Extensa running Windows Vista.

I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit to my Acer Aspire V5. I have the file on the computer and I can click it, and it shows the install files for the program, but I changed the boot options on the Acer Extensa computer so it boots from the USB drive. Even though I reboot the computer with Ubuntu on the plugged in flash drive, it doesn't do anything, it just loads Windows.

I'd like to get step-by-step instructions on what I need to do in order to install Ubuntu on my Acer Extensa 5630Z.

Have a look at this, but pay very good attention to step 3. –  Mitch Jun 14 '13 at 6:49
