Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I ran the Ubuntu installer on my desktop PC already running Windows 7. The PC has a 2 TB USB hard drive attached to it that holds pretty much every file I've ever owned.

I thought I was installing to a partition dev/sda4, but apparently ended up installing to sdf, the USB hard drive and marking it as an ext4 journaling partition.

What are my options for recovering the files from the USB drive? I didn't format it, so I assume most of the files are still there.
