Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Since i am a developer i found that Ubuntu is way more useful to me. So i was trying to install Ubuntu 13.04. So i downloaded the .iso file and burned it on DVD.

I booted from cd and follow instructions given here, since i have black screen on boot:

My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it?

Nothing really helped. I tried to install without the given modes but i cant get it to install -> Black Screen.

Then i tried to get the Grub bootloader menu, but using SHIFT, SPACE or C it does not show up.

My Hardware:

  • Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30 Ghz
  • ATI Radeon HD 6970 Asus
  • P8Z68-V PRO (Firmware: BIOS American Megatrends)

Sounds as if your graphics card is incompatible with Linux. Check the md5sum on the DVD help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM . If the md5sum is good, we need to know your hardware, in particular your video card. –  bodhi.zazen Jun 7 '13 at 19:38

I got an ATI HD 6900. I will check the md5hash tomorrow and post it here. –  CBergau Jun 7 '13 at 19:50

If it is now compatible, why can i boot from the CD then and "Try Ubuntu" without problems? :( –  CBergau Jun 7 '13 at 19:51

Did you try running the install again? Does it use efi? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface –  brim4brim Jun 8 '13 at 11:10
