My Dell keyboard has a music type controls (volume, mute, etc...), the mute button has cause me problems. Tried various tricks/tweaks fromn this forum, in the end I re-installed, as had to fix partitioning anyway as was a first time install & realised I'd got some thing wrong!
I'm using Built in audio analogue stero. This is shown on PulseAudio Volume Control (PAVC). Running Ubunto 12.10 with Xfce desktop manager.
The volume control works as expected output from speakers reduced/increase. This is also shown on PAVC & on a notification pop-up on screen (same you get if volume changed an app or on PAVC.
When I press the mute button, the sound is muted. A notification pop also confirms this, volume on bar down to minimum & red cross shown.. On PAVC on the output tab it's shown as muted as well. On the play back tab sound activity is shown on stereo panel.
So mute button is recognised & does what's expected. Had selected UK keyboard with WinKeys extension (has 3 dedicated MS Windows keys)
But when I press mute button again to un-mute, nothing happens! On the PAVC it still shows "Mute Audio" i.ee speaker with 3 horizontal dash lines. If I press the PAVC mute control, get sound again with expected notification pop-up.
Took me a while to find PAVC & realise it was used. Also mute button doesn't get your attention unless you know to look at it!
Why does mute button only for muting but doesn't un-mute??
Any advise appreciated, guess easiest thing is don't use the mute button on keyboard!!
