This question already has an answer here:

I´m trying to install Ubuntu on my PC, so I can work with CNC software available only in Linux. I installed VirtualBox to do this, I created my virtual machine following the steps, and I installed Ubuntu from the file that I downloaded from the Ubuntu webpage. I went through the installation procedure up to the part where I restarted the machine.

After I did so, the machine restarted, but then gave me a message saying that the systems is running in low graphics mode.

It gave me various options, but nothing worked. After a while of fidgeting with it, it took me to a login page with only commands, but nothing I typed worked.

Can anybody help me go through the installation, or help me solve this problem?

This question has been asked before and already has an answer. If those answers do not fully address your question, please ask a new question.

You probably need to install virtual box guest additions and Virtual Box Extension pack. Also be sure to check 3D acceleration in machine properties.

At present the extension pack does not do anything related to 3D graphics. This is all done with the guest additions. – Takkat Jun 5 '13 at 6:28
I know. But I always install both, and never experienced any problems, so maybe it is also useful. – Misery Jun 5 '13 at 6:33
