I'm running Ubuntu 10.10. I've got a non-USB mouse, and the scroll roller on my mouse works. But when I use the mouse pointer on the scroll button at the right bottom of the page, it begins scrolling itself and I can't stop it. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Sounds like either faulty hardware or incompatible hardware.

  1. Try reconnecting the mouse while the system is still on (unplug, plug it back in).
  2. Make sure that if its not a USB mouse and its old enough to not be an optical mouse, that the thing is kept clean.
  3. Try using a similar but different mouse to make sure it isnt just an issue of incompatibilty. If a similar mouse (that is not the one you say is causing issues) has this same issue, we can point to an incompatibility in something.

I've tried all these doesn't seem to help –  jbander Mar 14 '11 at 21:24

Then i can either point to incompatibilities in the hardware, or point to a possible issue with your 10.10 install. :/ –  Thomas W. Mar 14 '11 at 21:53
