Everything i try to install now since weeks it always shows dependency problems like below, how to make this package installed? i tried -f install and related other dependency but one after another shows missing etc. How do get this package installed in such case?

root@sun-M14xR2:~/Downloads# apt-get install ejabberd
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
ejabberd : Depends: erlang-asn1 (>= 1:15.b.1-dfsg) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: erlang-base (>= 1:15.b.1-dfsg) but it is not going to be installed or
erlang-base-hipe (>= 1:15.b.1-dfsg) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: erlang-crypto (>= 1:15.b.1-dfsg) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: erlang-inets (>= 1:15.b.1-dfsg) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: erlang-mnesia (>= 1:15.b.1-dfsg) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: erlang-odbc (>= 1:15.b.1-dfsg) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: erlang-public-key (>= 1:15.b.1-dfsg) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: erlang-ssl (>= 1:15.b.1-dfsg) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: erlang-syntax-tools (>= 1:15.b.1-dfsg) but it is not going to be installed
            Depends: erlang-abi-15.b
evoluspencil : Depends: firefox but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Did you try the suggested apt-get -f install ? –  Nanne May 31 '13 at 12:43

Can you upload your /etc/apt/sources.list (and all *.list in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/) to paste.ubuntu.com and post the link? –  Eric Carvalho May 31 '13 at 12:48

@Nanne Yes, he tried: "i tried -f install". –  Eric Carvalho May 31 '13 at 12:49

Also, post the output of dpkg -l | grep -v ^ii. –  Eric Carvalho May 31 '13 at 12:52
