I've got an OSX 10.8 machine hosting Ubuntu 13.04 in a VirtualBox VM. The guest Ubuntu machine is running an Apache server. I'm accessing the website from my host machine and am experiencing very high latency (15-40 seconds per http page request).

Th VM's Network is set to use "Bridged Adapter" mode. edit| I have set the network Adapter Type to Paravirtualized (virtio-net) and it has made no difference. |edit

The Ubuntu machine has the following configuration in /etc/network/interfaces:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

Running ifconfig on the Ubuntu machine gives this output:

My host OSX machine has this record in /etc/hosts: local.site

Accessing the site via http://local.site/ works fine, but results in high latency as described above. Pinging the guest IP ( is very quick (0.3 - 0.6ms).

What could be the cause of this latency?
