Inside UCK customization console (chroot'ed to ~/tmp), I'm trying to install grub-pc again. It needed to be removed before because of some errors while installing linux-image-3.8.0_22-generic, which could only be installed after I removed all grub-pc-related things (grub2-common etc.). It said something about "Syntax error: "fi" unexpected", a few lines below something about error in postinst line 1010... grub-pc always fails at --configure step. No matter if I use synaptic, apt-get or dpkg.

root@johannes-N73SV:/jotmp# dpkg --debug=3773 --configure grub-pc

I think it has something to do with grub being unable to install MBR? I already invested about 8 hours in slimming down the Ubuntu 13.04 Live CD (i386) (only about 1040 packages left installed, all others removed).

If nobody can help me with this question, maybe someone knows a customized Ubuntu distro for ASUS EeePC 900A with slow 8GB SSD (some base linux tool listed it as 'rotational') but 2 GB of RAM?

(I apologize for not learning better English, I thought my skills are sufficient for technical things)
