I'm trying to install xampp in my Ubuntu and in the process its asking for my root password which i don't remember ? I know my sudo user password. How can I recover my root password ? Please help !!

in that case use below steps:

  1. sudo su -

  2. Enter your sudo password

  3. then you will be get the root shell.

  4. now enter below command

  5. passwd

  6. enter the new password for root & confirm that password

that's about it.

your sudo password is your login password. If you have lost it it can be reset following these instructions. – Warren Hill May 29 '13 at 12:39
