I have a homeserver running Ubuntu 12.10 Server and I've setup a Windows 7 VM in VirtualBox for game developing with XNA and VS 2012 (Yep, this VM should run on my server for several reasons).
Unfortunately I need 3D hardware acceleration to compile my games (and for aero, seriously, windows looks horrible without aero!), but when I try to start the VM with 3D acceleration, i get the following error:
root > xenon /home/sebb # vboxmanage startvm GameDev --type vrdp
Waiting for VM "GameDev" to power on... VBoxManage: error: This VM was configured to use 3D acceleration. However, the 3D support of the host is not working properly and the VM cannot be started. To fix this problem, either fix the host 3D support (update the host graphics driver?) or disable 3D acceleration in the VM settings (VERR_NOT_AVAILABLE) VBoxManage: error: Details: code NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005), component Console, interface IConsole
I'd like to solve it without installing a extra gui because I'm trying to keep power consumption and resource usage low.
Is there a way to get 3D acceleration working?
