Sometimes my ethernet card on my HP 8530w is not visible anymore. Wifi works but eth0 is not listed. Ifconfig only shows lo and wlan0

The card is an intel gigabit card. Matlab requires you to have an ethernet card in your system so although I do have internet via wifi I can't use it.. Are there commands to force the system to redetect network cards?
EDIT: I rebooted two times (first time no change) and disabled and enabled the network card in the bios, now it is detected again. But this a really tedious procedure..
