Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a ubuntu server 12.04 running and want it to display a particular website all the time (nothing else).

I am not familiar with X Servers and window manager. After some research I installed X11 and Chromium and edited my xinitrc to start chromium in kiosk mode.

This quick solution works well expect for the fact chromium only occupies half of the screen. I tried firefox too who did the same thing.

I thought it could be a resolution issue and tried to run X -configure which stopped at some point stating:

number of created screens does not match number of detected device

any hints?
