I've installed Ubuntu 13.04 on a Lenovo G580.

Now I noticed that the built-in (web)cam is not being recognized. Does anybody know how to fix this and get the webcam running?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks

I've downloaded/installed the suggested program and the webcam is working within that program.

However, when running Camera Test from the System Testing here's what happens:

  • when clicking on "Test", there's NO image showing up
  • a few seconds after clicking on "Test", an error message is popping
up saying "Sorry, Ubuntu 13.04 has experienced an internal error"

When going to Skype, video is enable and under "select webcam" there's "Lenovo EasyCamera (/dev/video0) as only option selected. But, Skype doesn't recognize the camera as there's no pictures.

Any ideas on how to get this straightened out?

Do you know what webcam you have? –  Seth May 16 '13 at 17:45

Seth, to my knowledge it's a "Lenovo EasyCamera" (/dev/video0) –  user159295 May 16 '13 at 20:32

In Ubuntu 13.10 this camera is still working only partially. It means that it doesn't work or shows glitches in Skype and Cheese, but VLC SOMETIMES (only if no other played camera before VLC) is able to run it. I don't know how to proceed with that. It seams that system has problem initializing the camera, but it is detected (because the name and device exitsts - "Lenovo EasyCamera" /dev/video0) –  Malachiasz Nov 2 '13 at 22:06

Try to Download the "Cheese Webcam Booth" From the software Center.

if not the go to the site and download the .deb file

http://projects.gnome.org/cheese/

or

https://git.gnome.org/browse/cheese/

make sure you configure all the dependencies. And update the system by

sudo apt-get update

and reboot the system.

if the Problem persist then use the System Testing from the gnome-panel->System applicaiton. I hope it will helps.
