Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

So I’ve had GREAT experiences with Linux, recently i've been questioning more if those experiences are malicious. Separate systems i have previously run seemed to be compromised via web services and privileges. OS was not a factor and this seemed to transmit to livecd, USB, Devices and even wifi.. I have reason to believe maybe cloud services now..

Are there currently lists of installed Ubuntu 12.10 programs/services/updates I could verify with?

It would seem these are robotic and non-admin controlled leading me to the conclusion its more takeover scripts of some-sorts compromising admin of connections, kernels and services .. is any of this making any sense to senior users? How can I be sure and contain any transmission?

Sorry but you are going to have to be a lot more specific about a) the behavior you expect and b) the things you experience. –  don.joey May 14 '13 at 12:13
Please clarify your post (by editing it) what services you are running - Apache, FTP, SSH, etc. - and what evidence you have that leads you to believe that your system(s) had been compromised. –  douggro May 14 '13 at 12:14
