I have just completed an installation of Xubuntu 12.04 from an Alternate-Install on a MacBook Pro. reEFIt and GRUB etc. are all fine. But Xubuntu hangs at the splash screen with the progress bar. I am sure it just runs into a problem cause once I hit the power button, the progress bar comes back alive and the laptop powers down.

I was not successful in enabling the debug and verbose option in the GRUB with the "e" key, no matter how many times I have tried editing those boot lines in GRUB.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Edit /etc/default/grub, removing the words "quiet" and "splash" from GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT; then, run sudo update-grub; finally, reboot. This will allow you to see the error messages that are hidden by the splash screen. Please post them in the question. –  ignis May 13 '13 at 11:04
