I have two external hds one 80gb 2nd 160gb. I want to clone 'disk-disk' from 80gb to 160gb. Now because source is smaller I manually partitioned my 160gb using fsck in cmd mode of Clonezilla. The partition layout was thus made similar:

Disk /dev/sdb: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders, total 156301488 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xf5cef5ce

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1            2048      718847      358400   83  Linux
/dev/sdb2          718848    45774847    22528000   83  Linux
/dev/sdb3        45774848    48846847     1536000   82  Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sdb4        48846848   156301311    53727232    7  HPFS/NTFS/exFAT

Disk /dev/sdc: 160.0 GB, 160041884672 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders, total 312581806 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xf5cef5ce

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1            2048     1026047      512000   83  Linux
/dev/sdc2         1026048    74426367    36700160   83  Linux
/dev/sdc3        74426368    77498367     1536000   82  Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sdc4        77498368   312581805   117541719    7  HPFS/NTFS/exFAT

Afterwards I started cloning process 'disk-disk' & Clonezilla readily recognised what to do & cloned respective source partitions in their target (larger sized) counterparts. Afterwards I booted from the external 160gb (target) & I was successful every setting every application was there....

Now after that first successful boot whenever I restart or shutdown I got the nasty error grub rescue unknown filesystem Whenever I get this error I completely become hopeless because until now no one here could guide me through (take a peek at my previous questions)

source target

On my 2nd try when I first boot through the freshly cloned 160gb I ran grub-update but the same error happened after a reboot....On boot screen I can't access any partition

grub rescue> ls (hd0,msdos1)/
error: unknown filesystem
grub rescue> set root=(hd0,msdos1)/
grub rescue> set prefix=(hd0,msdos1)/boot/grub
grub rescue> insmod linux
error: unknown filesystem
grub rescue> insmod normal
error: unknown filesystem

I have tried following solutions:

http://askubuntu.com/a/286854/110979 fsck -t ext4 /dev/sdc1 reported many errors & repaired them but still the same error. Also can't mount /dev/sdc1 to reinstall grub
