I recently upgraded my zotac Atom Ion Nvidia computer from Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04

After Nvidia drivers updated I can't see my desktop. After boot, the screen goes black and all I can see is the mouse cursor. I do not know how to fix, please help. I am no longer able to use my computer and I have a lot of important files on my SSD I need. Thank you.

a live usb/cd can be use to get your files if you need them this second, you can boot recovery mode an purge nvidia driver using sudo apt-get purge nvidia*;sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf –  GM-Script-Writer-62850 May 10 '13 at 20:27

the first command removed removed the nvidia driver I'm assuming. The second one did not work. It says : "no such file or directory" –  Nikademo May 10 '13 at 21:15

it should boot up now so you can install the driver, do it from "software sources" in the last tab –  GM-Script-Writer-62850 May 10 '13 at 21:26

It boots to a wallpaper the says "Ubuntu studio Linux for creative humans" which I am assuming is the default wallpaper. That is all I can see. I cannot see anything else but the wallpaper and the mouse cursor. There are no tabs or windows. –  Nikademo May 10 '13 at 22:03

sounds like unity, failed to start, keyboard shortcuts work? like [Alt]+[F2]; if not use a tty [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F2] sudo apt-get install nvidia-313-updates you may also need to run sudo nvidia--xconfig –  GM-Script-Writer-62850 May 10 '13 at 22:15
