So I have Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 on my Main PC, running Gnome-Shell v. 3.9.1 And I installed it on my laptop from the exact same ISO, however there I only have 3.6.1. I already tried

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-shell

but that says that I already have the newest Version of Gnome-Shell

then I added the gnome3 ppa and updated Gnome with that, however that makes my system stay on the default background with not greeter. How can I install Gnome 3.9 without breaking my system?
