I am trying to play The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks using DeSmuMe. However, the microphone is not working, and I cannot go any farther in the game without it. When I launch DeSmuMe from the terminal, here is what I get:

josh@josh-laptop:~$ desmume
Slot 2: NONE
Failed to set format: Invalid argument
Microphone init failed.
DeSmuME 0.9.9 svnr0 dev+ x86-JIT NOSSE
SoftRast Initialized with cores=1

I have upgraded to DeSmuMe 0.9.9 by getting the package off of launchpad which is technically supposed to be for Ubuntu 13.10, hoping that doing this would solve my problem. It didn't. The developers of DeSmuMe state that for the microphone to work libasound is required. I have made sure that the packages libasound2, libasound2-plugins, and libasound2-plugins-extra are installed. I have checked several sources for dependencies and I have installed all of them. The microphone still does not work. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it? Thanks!
