Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

First off I am running Win8, but I was also having the same lock-ups with Win7. I am able to install either Ubuntu version onto a separate HDD using the windows installer. I reboot and choose Ubuntu to boot to and it starts to load the "Completing Ubuntu setup" window and the cursor flashes for about 2 minutes and then it just locks up. I have let it sit there for over an hr. I would appreciate any and all help. I have an Asus Rampage IV Extreme Motherboard matched with an I7-3930 CPU, AMD 7970 GPU(gpu works with v12.04LTS)

EDIT: It also will not allow me to "Try Ubuntu" from Either Ubuntu version, tried booting from CD, and USB flash drive. It also just locks up. Any advice?

EDIT2: I am currently downloading the 13.04 32 bit version and giving it a go. I will post back with results

Really if lockups were experienced with Windows & Linux, you have hardware failure. –  fleamour May 7 '13 at 22:47
