I have been trying for a week or so now, using various different suggestions in forums but have had no luck. Am I just doomed to have no dual screen support in Ubuntu 12.04?

(I don't know if this will help but the dual screens run fine in 13.04, but I cannot use that version because of some other bugs and lack of compatibility.)

have you looked in the NVIDIA x server settings? I have a HP Pavilion dv5 with NVIDIA GeForce 9200M and Ubuntu found my secondary screens no problem. You can find it by pressing super (windows key) and typing "nvidia" –  Silviu May 7 '13 at 10:00
I have had lots of problems with nvidia x server, I've been advised to use bumblebee because there are some problems with my graphics card and nvidia x server. Whenever I try to open it I get an error about xconfig it suggests typing "nvidia-xconfig" into terminal and logging out then back in. But when I do this it defaults to bottom resolution and I still get the same error when opening Xserver. –  GregRoebuck May 7 '13 at 11:06
