I have an executable script which starts a simple java GUI, which all works fine when I call the script from the terminal.

I then wanted to make a launcher to start the script, so I ran:

gnome-desktop-item-edit ~/Desktop/ --create-new

I gave it the command:

sudo /home/quetzalcoatl/myscript.sh &

in the hope that the ampersand would prevent the terminal window from opening, but alas, both the terminal and my GUI remain open.

Is there a way to start the script which starts my java applet without a terminal window opening from a gnome desktop launcher?
