Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

When installing this package, apt-get wants to pull in lots of old Gnome packages (at least libgnome2-0, libgnome2-bin, libgnome2-common, libgnomevfs2-0, libgnomevfs2-common, libidl-common, libidl0 and liborbit2). None of these are referenced if installing openjdk-6-jre.

Is this a bug in the package dependencies? I want to keep my system as clean as possible and don't want these unless necessary. They are listed as recommended so I can avoid it with --no-install-recommends, but does the JRE actually need any of these?
