I’m trying to install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit as a KVM guest using virt-install with an ISO file on my headless Ubuntu 12.04 Server via command line. I’m using Putty SSH from a Windows machine (with Xming and X11 configured) to access the server. Using the following command:
sudo virt-install --connect qemu:///system -n win7_pro_x64 -r 3072 -c X17-24281.iso --vnc --noautoconsole --os-type windows --os-variant win7 --disk /dev/sdd1,size=1000 --accelerate
I get hung on the domain installation. Here’s the output after executing the command above:
Starting install... Creating domain... | 0 B 00:00 Domain installation still in progress. Waiting for installation to complete.
I’ve tried with
--accelerate both with the same result.
From here I interrupt (ctrl + c) and execute
virsh list and get the following:
Id Name State ---------------------------------- 7 win7_pro_x64 running
From here I can access the VM using:
virt-viewer -c qemu:///system win7_pro_x64
Then, proceeding with the Windows installation, I choose "Install now" --> Accept license terms --> Custom (advanced) installation type.
Immediately after selecting the Custom installation type, a message box pops up:
Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation
Error code: 0xE0000100
What might be the cause of this?
