I can run sudo synaptic from the command line and it works fine, but when I try to run Syaptic Package Manager from the menu, it prompts me for my password and tells me the password is incorrect every time.

Do other graphical root actions accept the password? For example, Alt+F2, gksu thunar. –  charlie-tca May 15 '11 at 20:53
