Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I had to create a script in order to make my skype acknowledge my microphone. It's a simple code:

#!/bin/bash
echo "autospawn = no" > ~/.pulse/client.conf
killall pulseaudio
skype

It indeed works, but I have to go to skype options -> sound devices EACH TIME I want to call someone. I don't change anything there, I just need to go there. This pc is in fact a pc made for my father, who only uses it to read news and skype me when I'm abroad. Is there a way to either open skype directly to sound devices, or somewhat make him remember my choices?

It's a skype bug. Only microsoft can fix it. –  LtWorf Apr 28 '13 at 9:26
