Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm using VPN to connect with a Windows server. The connection is configured to route only one specific IP address via the VPN. I'm using that IP address to remote desktop to the Windows machine I've connected to.

I don't know why, but using remote desktop (I use "rdesktop", but this also happened when I tried remote desktoping from a virtual Windows machine) disconnects the VPN. Sometimes it happens the moment I remote desktop, and sometimes it takes a few minutes, but at some point the VPN disconnects.

The VPN does not disconnect if I don't use remote desktop. And the same set up works fine from Windows. I'm on Mint at the moment, but had the same issue from a pure Ubuntu machine.

Anyone has any idea what could be wrong, or how I could debug this? I'm getting quite desperate here, so any help is appreciated. Thanks!
