I'm running the latest version of Kubuntu and today I upgraded various packages and rebooted and now can't login. The computer gets to the login screen where I can login as my user or guest, but upon doing so I get this screen and then I get routed back to the login screen.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this issue?
* EDIT *
I'm using a Lenovo W530 laptop with a Nvidia Quadro graphics card. Inspecting the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file shows me a error saying "Failed to load module 'nvidia' (module does not exist)", and the same with module "nv"
I've found this issue which seems very similar to my own, apart from that I can't log in to my guest account either. I've rebooted in to recovery mode and have tried to remove the .Xauthority file from my home directory with now luck - it's reporting "rm: cannot remove '.Xauthority': Read-only file system"
I've managed to login with the cli from the login screen by pressing Ctrl + Win + Alt + F1 and then followed all of the solutions in this post and now my error message in Xorg.0.log has changed to "Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)".
lspci shows me both the following lines:
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107 [Quadro K2000M] (rev a1)
