Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a macbook air and no os x. I have, however, ubuntu burned to a usb drive and I can access the testing version of ubuntu, but of course I'd like to have something a little more permanent.

So my question is: How do I install ubuntu on a mac without os x. All of the guides I've read are for those with os x and I cannot seem to find anything for those that do not as I assume there aren't very many that are in my situation.

I have tried to completely format my SSD by making a new partition table and then installing ubuntu, this however results in nothing being bootable (except the test ubuntu from the usb). The computer just flashes a folder with an "x" on it.

Any help would be wonderful, thanks.
