Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I was using Ubuntu yesterday fine, as Windows was not booting up, but now when I try and boot Ubuntu, in gives me the message:

Minimal BASH-like editing is supported

along with some information about using the TAB key. Below this, it says

I know nothing about this, so I'm a complete newbie, so if you can help, write what you have to say in English if it is possible. It would also be helpful to tell me why this is happening / why doing what you tell me to do will fix it so I can learn from this. When I type in 'boot' it comes up with:

error: you need to load the kernel first.
