I'm trying to set up an old Dell Dimension 4600 as a DVR using MythUbuntu. The MythUbuntu installed fine, however after I installed the driver for the graphics card, an nVidia GeForce 4 MX (old), the MythTV frontend will not boot at all. It fails on startup, as it tries to boot automatically, and now I just see a "Restarting" dialog that repeats indefinitely. The backend configuration also will not load.
Obviously it must have something to do with the driver installation. Installing [the driver] required following instructions from these two Ubuntu forums post:
that is, using
chmod +x file.run and Ctrl+Alt+F1 to use
sudo service lightdm stop. I don't know if either of those things are relevant; just listing all my steps.
There was also a couple prompts during the driver installation that referred to something about an X server file, but I thought that was taken care of with the "lightdm stop" command. That may have had something to do with it.
If anyone has any idea or information on what went wrong here, help me out!
