i have recently installed ubuntu for work purposes but i am using two monitors with different resolution.
the first one, a GNR 19" has a maximum resolution at 1440x900 while the second one a samsung 24" has maximum resolution at 1920x1080..
if i set both screens to thier correct maximum resolution the screen goes black and it seems that ubuntu stops working since it doesn't reset the resolution back to the previous setting.
if i keep one monitor to it's max resolution and the other to just a little less like 1680x1050 then it works without problems.
the first monitor is attached with DVI and the second one with HDMI.
other system specs:
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
- Asus Maximus Formula 2 Socket LGA775 Chipset P45
- Geforce GTX 295
For some strange reason, if i have only the 24" monitor plugged in i can use it at 1920x1080, if i then plug in the small monitor it automatically sets the big one at 1680x1050 and if i change this setting the screen goes black and i need to reboot.
