Help. I updated my Ubuntu box last night and my 2nd NIC stopped working.
Actually, both NIC's stopped working, but I'll get to that in a moment.
I was running Ububtu 12.04LTS, and last night I did an
$ sudo apt-get update
from an SSH shell. When I looked at the console later, I saw that I had something like 234 updates ready to install. (I had previously disabled automatic updates and prompts for updates.) After waiting for the updates to complete, I rebooted the system and had no network access. I added
auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp
to my /etc/network/interfaces file (not sure why it wasn't there before, but perhaps I was happy allowing NetworkManager to manage my network), and I now have network access on my primary network interface.
But the secondary interface, on which I run an independent network with a DHCP server no longer works. ifconfig doesn't list eth1 anymore.

No driver was loaded. This used to work. And I have no clue why updating my system would have caused it to stop working.
Can anybody give me any tips on what I might to to get this working again? I have asked the Google without any success so far.
