Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free.

I need to set up a live audio streaming server on a machine running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. (It will be for conference purpose, voice not music).

  • I would like to do it through HTTP.
  • I need only one feed (source will be soundcard microphone).
  • Clients will be running Windows System.
  • There will be maximum 10-15 clients.

I don't have experience in streaming. There are many solutions for that: Pulseaudio, avserver, Icecast, Shoutcast etc.

Which one to choose and how to start?
