First, I've look at Is a clean install better than upgrading? and a few other posts and they don't really answer my specific questions.
I'm running the 10.04 Netbook Remix on an Acer Aspire One ZG5 which I modded by replacing the crappy 8GB SSD with a 30 GB Toshiba MK3008GAL. Most of the packages on my system are Ubuntu provided, although I've installed a few things from ppa's and tarballs ( not too many though ). I use this as my main system, doing c/c++ dev, web browsing, watching movies, etc., etc...
10.04 is getting a bit long in the tooth, but I like the interface and it runs smoothly on this netbook. So here's the list of questions:
- Can I get the 10.04 style netbook interface on 12.04
- Any known issues with this netbook and 12.04
- Can I still use this method to generate a list of user installed packages and restore them in a clean install
- Upgrade or Clean Install
