I have a HP Folio 13 ultrabook with HDMI out for second monitor. When I go to displays and use Detect Displays it doesn’t recognize the monitor.

Also why are the programs so slow to open up in Ubuntu? When I click an icon there usually is a 4-5 second delay before the program opens. When I had windows 7 on this laptop programs opened up instantaneously. (laptop has SSD drive)

It seems like your graphics card isn't working properly. Could you give us more information about VGA installed in your laptop? –  Misery Apr 4 '13 at 13:09

Give us more info about your G. card. Especially by "lspci | grep VGA" command or result of "xrandr" command. –  Dee Apr 4 '13 at 16:07
