I have a system running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, that--upon reboot--failed to bring up the primary ethernet interface. The interface was up before reboot, and a manual "ifup eth0" managed to bring it up after the system was up.
Looking in the syslogs I see this line that looks suspicious:
Apr 1 17:41:34 server1 kernel: [ 4.814796] init: network-interface (eth0) pre-start process (2902) terminated with status 1
And here's the entry in /etc/network/interfaces:
auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 10.0.0.11 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 10.0.0.0 broadcast 10.0.0.255 gateway 10.0.0.1 # dns-* options are implemented by the resolvconf package, if installed dns-nameservers 10.1.1.23
Any thoughts on what's going on, or where to look for more info?
