Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free.

When I install on notebook (HP Pavilion dv6-3110er. AMD N830 2100MHz / ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470) Ubuntu 12.10 x64, the installation freezes on the logo. Throws an error failed to load file amd ucode/microcode_amd.bin. Can this be fixed? Excuse my poor knowledge of the language. I am from Zimbabwe

System Tools>Administration>Synaptic Package Manager enter your password. In the search amd64-microcode. Put checkmark in hit apply and install. Not real hard and should work well. If it is a Ubuntu disk might have to put on another linux installation and use Ubuntu Builder to open it up then can use Synaptic Package Manager to install amd64-microcode. Am real surprised any Linux distro would come without it! I am messing around building them and I forgot to install first time I made a Linux OS! Just hope this helps as know how aggravating using a system you do not want is!!!
