Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I tried to install Xubuntu 12.10 X64 and in the section about partitioning it got stuck with the message that it is not compatible with gpt table partition, I had a Windows 7 which I re-installed for a 64bit, but the harddrive is 80 GB.

So how can I install Xubuntu? I do not care about losing windows, that is what I wanted. The laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-FE750FM.

Using a Linux emergency disc, such as Parted Magic (partedmagic.com), type gdisk /dev/sda (or whatever the disk device is), and then in gdisk, use both the p and v commands. Show the complete output of these commands; they contain vital diagnostic information. –  Rod Smith Apr 6 '13 at 19:30
